Check the item limit, not only the baggage total
A policy may have a total baggage maximum plus lower limits for individual items or categories such as electronics, cameras or jewelry.
Theft needs documentation
Policies can require prompt notice to police, a hotel, carrier or other responsible party. Keep the report and case number.
Prove ownership and value
Receipts, order emails, photos, serial numbers and payment records can support a claim. Back up those records before travel.
Carrier and credit-card overlap
If an airline or credit-card benefit also applies, keep its payment or denial because the travel insurer may ask what another party paid.
Specialized gear
Professional equipment, high-value camera systems and other specialized property may need separate coverage. Check exclusions and item limits before travel.
