Coverage overview

What Travel Insurance Covers

Travel insurance is a bundle of separate benefits. A strong comparison asks what each benefit covers, what triggers it, how much it pays, and what proof is required.

Trip cancellation and interruption

Cancellation protects eligible prepaid trip cost before departure for covered reasons. Interruption addresses a trip that has already started and can involve unused arrangements or additional transportation.

  • Read the covered-reason list.
  • Separate cancellation from interruption.
  • Check the insured trip cost and any benefit maximum.

Emergency medical and evacuation

Medical and evacuation are related but different. One pays eligible medical expenses; the other addresses medically necessary transport under the policy's conditions.

  • Medical maximum and deductible.
  • Primary versus secondary wording.
  • Who coordinates evacuation and where transport may go.

Delay, missed connection and baggage

These benefits often depend on time thresholds, common-carrier records, item limits, receipts, police reports, or other proof.

  • Waiting period or trigger.
  • Eligible expenses.
  • Per-item or special-item limits.

Exclusions and definitions

Definitions can narrow a benefit dramatically. Read terms for pre-existing conditions, covered reasons, travel supplier, common carrier, medical necessity, destination and known events.
