Keep the airline/property irregularity report or police report as applicable.

List each item, age, purchase cost, claimed value and any serial number.

Use receipts, photos, card statements or other records.

Document what the airline or other carrier paid.

Check per-item and special-property limits before expecting the total baggage maximum for one item.
